Hope you
are
doing well and you are getting ready for your new puppy.
This is a
copy of G-Dieter Dane’s puppy
pre-pickup info. If you have any
question, please let us know. The pups
are
about ready to go to their new homes. Touch
base with me (if you haven’t yet) so that we can set
up a day and
time for you to pick up your pup. Please allow up to two hours
for your visit
to get your puppy. This time will be
used to go over the puppy agreement and to ask any questions you might
have. Please do not hesitate to contact us
with any further questions or concerns you have. In addition,
remember the full
balance is due upon pick up and it should be cash, money order or
cashiers
check (no personal checks, please). Make sure
you
have a safe way of transporting your puppy. Ideally, a crate
should be used.
Puppies sometimes get car sick, so be prepared for this by bringing
papers
towels, water, and absorbent material for the crate or wherever you
will have
the pup in. You should also bring a new collar and lease for your
pup. Most pups at 8 weeks old have a 10 to
12 inch
neck. I suggest getting an adjustable
buckle collar at this point until they get a little bigger. This way you can adjust it as they grow and
don't have to keep getting new collars. Once they get bigger, you
can get a larger
permanent collar. When you
pick
up your puppy, you will get all the info on your puppy regarding shots,
ear
posting (if applicable), and any other needed info. The health
guarantee is conditional and your puppy must be health checked by your
Vet
within one week from the date of pick-up. So
if desired you can go ahead and make an appointment
once we arrange a
time for pick up. Your puppy will have his/her first shot upon
pick up. The health
guarantee
is dependent on feeding Eagle Pack Puppy Giant Breed or another high
quality
food approved by G-Dieter Danes. Eagle Pack’s website is www.eaglepack.com and their phone
number
is 1-800-255-5959. It is also
required that your new puppy gets Vitamin C during the rapid growth
stage. You
can purchase time release chewable Vitamin C from Foster and Smith mail
order
catalog. Their website is www.DrsFosterSmith.com
and their phone number is 1-800-381-7179.
I suggest getting the 1000 mg and splitting them to the dose needed.
You should
give them a smaller dose and work up to the current dose so that it
doesn't
cause diarrhea. Dose is dependent on weight of the dog, but it
doesn't have to
be exact. Vitamin C is water soluble and what the body doesn't
use, it gets rid
of. Glucosamine
and Chrondroitin are recommended also. No
other supplements are permitted. Don’t
forget
plenty of toys. The more you have the
less likely your new puppy will chew on things he shouldn’t. Please don’t use rawhide or greenies without
strict supervision. And
finally,
I wanted to tell you about a group we have on the Internet. It is
a discussion
group about Great Danes. It includes people who show, people who
are pet
owners, professional handlers, rescue people and any one interested in
Danes.
This is a good way to learn more about danes and/or ask questions you
may have
and/or just share with other dane owners. If interested, go to: http://groups.yahoo.com/group/opendanes,
click on join and follow
the instructions. Look
forward
to seeing you the day of pickup! Peggy :) |
